3. LOCAL WORK ENVIRONMENT
St Vincent’s BreastScreen aims to reduce the morbidity and mortality due to breast cancer through the early detection of the disease. The program adheres to the values of St Vincent’s health which reflect the mission of BreastScreen Victoria to strive for excellence, collaboration, access, acceptability and improvements in detection and treatment of breast cancer.
4. POSITION PURPOSE
The Breast Screen fellow is provided with a training program which encompasses screen reading, consensus reading, and assessment and quality review of cases for St Vincent’s BreastScreen program.
They provide an integral discipline within the BreastScreen multidisciplinary team, which also encompasses surgery, pathology, radiography, counseling and nursing.
5. POSITION DUTIES
Screen Reading
- Digital Reading of screening mammograms throughput volume to meet service benchmark.
- Participation in consensus reading of discordant reads.
Multidisciplinary team assessment
- Work within the team environment to provide radiological assessment of women with radiological abnormalities and/or breast symptoms.
- Participate consensus reading as required.
- Manage clinic tasks and workflow in consultation with team members.
- Conduct procedures: Ultrasound FNA, Stereotactic and US core biopsy, vacuum assisted biopsy (EnCor).
- Provide results and management options to patients in a caring, informative and supportive environment that respects the patient’s need for information and choice.
- Fully complete patient record and complete result letters to the nominated GP.
- Conduct case review of the previous clinics for the purpose of identifying any outstanding clinical issues affecting final recommendation.
- Co-ordinate multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Involvement in Breast MRI service at St Vincent’s.
- Participate in the quarterly reading performance audit.
- Undertake research project.
INCUMBENT OBLIGATIONS

7. SELECTION CRITERIA
7.1 ESSENTIAL REGISTRATION, LICENSE OR QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Registration with the Australian Medical Board
- Membership of appropriate Specialist College
- Commonwealth Specialist registration
- CMI re-certification
- Completion of Part 2 RANZCR examinations
7.2 OTHER ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

7.3 OTHER NON-ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Breast imaging experience desirable
- PRE-EXISTING INJURY
Prior to any person being appointed to this position it will be required that they disclose full details of any pre-existing injuries or disease that might be affected by employment in this position.
9. Agreement
General:
I have read, understood and agree to comply with the responsibilities and accountabilities of this position description. I agree to comply with all SVHM requirements, policies, procedures, by laws and directions.
National Police Check:
I understand that it is a condition of my employment to provide SVHM with a current National Police Certificate PRIOR TO COMMENCING WORK and this is at my own cost.
I understand that regardless of the frequency, if I am working and or visiting in a designated ‘high risk area’ of SVHM (as defined in the SVHA Pre-employment/Appointment Safety Checks Policy) I will be subject to periodic Police Checks every three years at my own cost.

BreastScreen Breast Imaging Fellow 2027 - Semester 1 & 2

SVHM is one of Australia's leading Catholic not-for-profit healthcare providers.
Breast Imaging Fellow Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for full time and part time Breast Radiology Fellowship positions commencing in February and August 2027 (semester 2) for six months. Training will be provided in this large screening and assessment service of Breast Screen Australia responsible for screening, assessment and diagnosis of over 54,000 women each year. The successful candidates will participate in screening mammography and breast assessment including work-up mammography, breast ultrasound, image guided biopsy, both ultrasound and stereotactic guided, together with diagnostic breast imaging and breast MRI. Fellows will participate in quality review activities and are encouraged to undertake a research project and to publish and present their findings. The successful candidate will have completed Part 2 RANZCR examinations and prior experience would be considered favourably.
