Radiology Fellowship (Unaccredited) – Breast Imaging

Position Title: Radiology Fellow – Breast Imaging (Unaccredited)

Reports To: Clinical Director
Position Type: Unaccredited Fellowship Position
Permanent part-time position: (either a 6 or 12-month fellowship) flexible working arrangement 2 or 3 days per week (depending on candidate), or
Full- time position: 2 or 3 days fellowship with additional days as consultant radiologist. Each position paid pro-rata.
On completion of the Fellowship it would be expected the candidate remains with the practice for a period of 12 months after the completion of the training (pro-rata to fellowship days).
Position Summary:
This Breast Imaging Fellowship offers advanced, hands-on training in all aspects of breast imaging in a high-volume, multidisciplinary breast imaging practice. The role is designed for radiologists seeking additional subspecialty experience prior to entering private practice, applying for accredited fellowships, or working in academic/clinical environments.
As an unaccredited position, the fellowship provides a structured yet flexible opportunity for professional development.
Remuneration:
Position classification: Registrar Year 7 – (PGY7) HM27 Medical Practitioners Award (MA 000031).
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties
Interpret diagnostic breast imaging studies including:
Digital mammography, tomosynthesis and Contrast Enhanced Mammography
Breast CT
Breast ultrasound
Breast MRI
Perform interventional procedures:
Stereotactic, ultrasound-guided, and MRI-guided breast biopsies
Preoperative localisations (wire, seed, or equivalent)
Participate in daily case review, protocol review, and film reading sessions
Collaborate in multidisciplinary meetings (MDTs) with breast surgeons, pathologists, oncologists, and nursing staff
Contribute to quality assurance and audit activities related to breast imaging services
Teaching & Education (self-directed)
Participate in self-guided training program including online training materials, case study reading material and text book reading. Core modules will include keys ares of breast imaging including:
Anatomy and physiology of the breast (fundamentals)
Pathology of the breast
Mammography interpretation and guidelines
Tomosynthesis
Breast (Mamma) CT
Ultrasound of the breast
MRI of the breast interpretation and guidelines
Optional involvement in research and/or case presentations at conferences
Administrative & Support Duties
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of imaging reports and interventional outcomes
Support the operational workflow of the breast imaging unit in collaboration with radiographers and administrative staff
Adhere to institutional protocols, clinical governance requirements, and patient privacy regulations

Qualifications and Requirements:
Essential:
MBBS or equivalent medical degree
Completed accredited training in Diagnostic Radiology (FRANZCR or equivalent overseas qualification)
This position would ideally suit a radiology registrar (completed part 2 exams) or recently qualified radiologist – seeking to subspecialise in breast imaging.
Completion of FRANZCR part 2 exams or equivalent is a pre-requisite to participate in this fellowship.
Current registration with AHPRA as a medical practitioner or Radiologist.
Demonstrated interest and experience in breast imaging
High level of communication and interpersonal skills
Commitment to multidisciplinary care and professional development
Desirable:
Experience in breast interventional procedures
Prior research activity or academic presentations in breast imaging
Familiarity with PACS/RIS and voice recognition reporting systems
